Chris Evans Speaks on Trump and Retirement Rumors
Is he retiring? Read to find out.
Chris Evans opens up about his anxiety, political views, and retirement rumors in the New Hollywood Reporter interview. Evans has said he is ready to retire from his Captain America character after the release of Avengers: Endgame, coming out April 26th.
There has also been speculation that he will be retiring from acting completely, but announcements of new projects say otherwise. Evans will star in a murder mystery titled, Knives Out. He will also appear in an Apple limited series titled, Defending Jacob and is in the talks to star in Antoine Fuqua’s Infinite. So, it’s safe to say those retirement rumors from acting are simply that, just rumors.
However, Evans does want to direct more, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He directed one film back in 2014, titled Before We Go, which was a learning experience for him.
“I’m ok with making mistakes…I learned a lot from that one.” This is Evan speaking on his first directing experience for Before We Go.
When Evans was asked about how he is in a relationship, he expressed that he enjoys doing things by himself, and that the ideal partner would also have their own occupations.
“I’m the one who fears being enveloped. I was always a really autonomous guy my whole life. Camping by myself is one of my favorite things. I really like to be with someone who also has their own thing to do as well, you know? If I’m with someone who just kind of adapts my life, that can feel a bit suffocating.”
Moreover, Evans is more than happy to speak up. His favorite place to express his thoughts is on Twitter, where you can catch him tweeting quotes from ‘Idiocracy’ to mock Trump.
Not only is Evans outspoken, he is also seen as a real life super-hero for his involvement in politics. Evans has been organizing interviews for A Starting Point, a politics website whose mission is “to create informed, responsible and empathetic citizens.” He’s a co-founder, along with the actor Mark Kassen and entrepreneur Joe Kiani.
In response to being asked if he would play Tom Brady, Evans stated the following:
“I don’t know…I really hope he’s not a Trump supporter. I’m just hoping he’s one of those guys that maybe supported him and now regrets it. Maybe he thought it was going to be different, and even that bothers me, but maybe there’s a chance now he just thinks Trump’s an absolute dumb sh*t, which he is. If he doesn’t, if he’s still on that Trump train, I might have to cut ties. It’s really tough.”
During the interview, Evans almost gave a spoiler on Endgame:
“I can’t believe they even cut together a trailer…because so much of it is a visual spoiler. You’ll see. A lot of the characters have…Probably shouldn’t have even said that.”
In the last part of the interview, he expresses how this last movie got him choked up.
“Man…This one’s really good. I choked up like three times.”
Evans was then asked about Captain America dying in which he admits:
“It’s hard. Seeing my own death…It’s going to be a long movie, that’s for sure. The first edit clocked in over three hours. My funeral’s like an hour.”
