Dwayne Wade Visits Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
Dwayne Wade giving back in a positive way
Dwayne Wade paid a visit to the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, just about an hour away from Miami. The school is the location of the latest mass shooting. Where on Valentine’s Day a gunman took the lives of 17 members of the school’s community, students, and faculty.
One of the victims, Joaquin Oliver, was buried in a Wade jersey. Deeply touched by this Wade brought Joaquin’s family to a game last weekend. He wrote Joaquin’s name on his game sneakers and presented the family with rare commemorative jersey, a custom pair of sneakers with their son’s name and his high school’s mascot.
Today he spoke with the students and faculty, who all flocked to social media posting happy videos and messages about the superstar’s surprise visit. Wade addressed the crowd saying “I just wanted to stop by, wanted to come to the school.” He went on to say, “first of all, I am so excited to be back in this city, in this state. And I just want to come here today and hopefully for a moment, for a second, bring a little of this, bring a little excitement. What you guys have been going through and seeing how resilient you guys have been has been amazing from afar. I just wanted to come and say I’m inspired by all of you.”
In the wake of this tragety, Wade has made multiple efforts to be a positive voice upon returning back to his community in Miami.
