This Is Why Everyone Is Still Talking About Cristiano Rolando’s Statue
Bring on the memes.
Cristiano Rolando has the reputation of being considered one of best soccer players in the world as well as being recognized for his good looks by many women. Just recently, Portugal’s Madiera Islands airport honored the star soccer player by holding a press conference and renaming their airport after Ronaldo. Once the statue that was supposed to resemble Ronaldo was revealed, it was hilarious. The piece had little to no resemblance to the soccer stud. According to the Los Angeles Times, the sculptor Emanuel Santos, responded to the chaos by stating that “Cristiano saw the photos that his brother sent him.” The artist even confirmed Cristiano’s approval by claiming, “I was with the brother at Cristiano’s museum in Madeira, and from the messages he sent, I could tell that he liked what he saw. He only asked for some wrinkles that give him a certain expression in his face when he’s about to laugh to be changed. He said it made him look older and asked for it to be thinned out a bit to make it smoother and more jovial. But they gave it the go-ahead; they liked what they saw.”
The whole thing was an incredible honor but the resemblance of the statue was pretty laughable and social media ran with it.
