Facebook Co-Founder Says “It’s Time To Break Up Facebook”
“The government must hold Mark accountable.”
Chris Hughes’ name should be as familiar as Mark Zuckerberg’s when it comes to Facebook. Hughes co-founded the social media giant 15 years ago. Now, while writing a lengthy letter to the NY Times, Hughes feels he needs to shine light on Facebook and the power it has. “It’s been 15 years since I co-founded Facebook at Harvard, and I haven’t worked at the company in a decade,” Hughes said. “But I feel a sense of anger and responsibility.”
He insists that Zuckerberg is a good person; but it’s the power that comes with social media platforms–in this case, Instagram and WhatsApp–that is the real concern. He urges the U.S government to hold Zuckerberg accountable. “Mark’s power is unprecedented and un-American,” he says. “It is time to break up Facebook.”
