French Fashion Icon Hubert De Givenchy Passes Away
R.I.P. to the fashion icon
Most known for putting Audrey Hepburn in that classic little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy has died at age 91. His partner Philppe Venet, confirmed the news. The designing powerhouse has dressed the likes of Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy. What he built with the Givenchy name is still very much a part of Hollywood. The fashion powerhouse was showcased all over this year’s Oscars red carpet.
Givenchy released a statement via Twitter with a photo of Hubert saying,”The House of Givenchy is sad to report the passing of its founder Hubert de Givenchy, a major personality of the world of French Haute Couture and a gentleman who symbolized Parisian chic and elegance for more than half a century. He will be greatly missed.”
Clare Waight Keller is currently the brand’s artistic director. She became the first woman appointed to the position in March 2017.Givenchy remains a popular choice for stars on the red carpet. Being worn by Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot and Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman at this year’s Oscars.The designer has asked that his friends and admirers make a donation to the children’s charity Unicef in his memory, instead of sending flowers.
