Giant ‘Seated Ballerina’ is Unveiled in NYC
To raise awareness for national missing children’s month.
In the center of Rockefeller Center is the new 45-foot-tall inflatable nylon ‘Seated Ballerina’ by artist Jeff Koons. The sculpture serves as a more modern version of the goddess Venus who in Roman mythology serves as the goddess of love, beauty, sex, and fertility. The sculpture is hosted by real estate company Tishman Speyer. It is presented by brand Kiehl’s and non-profit organization Art Production Fund. The ‘Seated Ballerina’ gives off a reflective surface that engages viewers as they approach. The sculpture’s purpose is to raise awareness of national missing children’s month for this May.
