Michelle Obama Honors Chance the Rapper with BET Humanitarian Award
The youngest recipient ever.
Aside from winning an award for best new artist, Chance the Rapper was honored with the 2017 BET Humanitarian Award Sunday night. He is the youngest recipient in BET history and was given it because of the community work he’s done within his career. A $1 million donation to Chicago public schools, and another $2 million through his Social Works project, it’s very clear Chance has created a positive impact within younger generations. Former First Lady Michelle Obama gave a speech briefly before Chance accepted his award- “We are so incredibly proud of you Chance,” she said. “Chance is showing our young people that they matter. Chance you are an outstanding role model, and an inspiration to people who care about our next generation.”
As for his acceptance speech, Chance addressed police brutality, societal issues, and the government’s failure to shine a light on these problems. Watch the video down below.
