Netflix And Amazon Will Not Be Excluded From The Oscars
Netflix and Amazon are making moves.
Streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon will be able to submit their films for The Academy Awards next year despite Hollywood’s outcry against it. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the decision to not to pursue a “motion picture” only ceremony. However, current rules still apply, a movie will only be considered if it has a seven-day run in Los Angeles theaters. Netflix is planning a theatrical run for its film The Irishman.
The changes were brought to light after Netflix earned its first Best Picture nomination for Roma. No surprise here, Steven Spielberg has spoken out against allowing streaming services to join the Oscar party.
