The People Want Chance The Rapper to Run for Mayor in 2019
A group of Chance The Rapper fans have created a website advocating #ChanoForMayor in Chicago. The website consists of two letters, one to the city of Chicago and another directly addressed to Chance the Rapper. It also includes direct quotes out of songs where Chance talks about how much he loves his city, his plans, and criticisms of regulations. The Chano4Mayor2k19 Team writes, “We know you don’t think of yourself as a politician, and we respect that. But this election is an opportunity for Chicago that we don’t want to miss.” The group would like to see Chance run in 2019, when he would challenge incumbent Rahm Emanuel, who has won the past two elections.
More recently, Chance has met up with Illinois governor, Bruce Rauner, advocating for change in Chicago Public Schools and ended up donating $1 million. Although his political aspirations aren’t clear, the group that launched Chano4mayor.com started working on the site as soon as he announced his donation to the schools.
