Snapchat Redesign Separates Your Friends From Brands
The feeds are finally separated.
Snapchat is aiming to streamline its flagship app. With some troubling stock reports, the company is looking to build its stagnating userbase and hopes that a simple redesign will grant relief.
With even its own employees complaining about confusion when using the app, Snapchat is rolling out a redesign that separates feeds from brands and friends. The concept sees the Snapchat camera placed in the center of the home page, with friends’ stories and chats on one side and brands in the Discover page on the other. Users are considered friends if they follow each other, and frequently watching a user’s story or chatting with them will teach the algorithm to bring their content to the top of the Friends page. Admitting that “blurring the lines between professional content creators and your friends … has … produced some strange side-effects (like fake news),” Snapchat is first testing the redesign with a small group of users before opening it up to everyone.
